"The Buttercups Deer Haven Story"
"BUTTERCUPS DEER HAVEN" was founded in 2004
by W.P. BILL "DOC" Bennett PhD
Buttercups Deer Haven is a private haven for deer located in Corvallis, Oregon at the end of a
cul-de-sac in a housing development at the residence of
the founder. All the photos and videos were done by "DOC" in the front and back yards of his home.
As this is a private endeavor of animal conservation. Federal funding, grants, or assistance from conservation groups is not available.
Addtionally "TAX EXEMPT" status is not available.
Bill (DOC) Bennett, is a disabled U.S. Navy Veteran, as well as a sufferer of Multiple Sclerosis "MS" and
on Social Security.
Until 2009 funding for Buttercups Deer Haven - save the deer project - was strictly out of pocket. However due to financial modifications "NOW DOC NEEDS HELP".
Presently "DOC" is caring for approximately 45 deer, this varies daily. With this years birthing season in full swing he expects the population to increase by another 14 new births. There have already been five, and last year there were 23 fawn born. Doc was able to protect the deer of B.D.H. from an outbreak of Hemoragic Deer Virus in 2010, which killed over 90% of the central Oregon Deer Population. The deer of Buttercups Deer Haven all survived. "DOC" also cares for the deer medically when accidents happen. Accidents like being hit by a car, or attacks by cougars or neighborhood dogs.
